What The Government Should Do

Nothing. Well actually, two things. There are only two things that the government should do, and had the original mandate to do:

1. Protect us against invasion from other countries


2. Keep a justice system in place in order for disputes between people to be dealt with

That is all. Those two points above are the only things that government should be doing, not the other million plus things that it is doing right now, deeply interfering in our lives and digging deep into our pockets to steal our hard earned cash.

When you look at it from that perspective, you realize how far from the roots of our government it has strayed, and continues to stray.

But some may say: what about this or that thing that the government does? Well I say, if the government stops doing it, and then a private company steps in to provide that “service”, and can make money and survive by doing it, well then I guess it was worth doing. If no one enters the fray to do the work, I can bet you that we never needed that service after all.

Change In Egypt?

As some people as saying regarding the ousting of Mubarak in Egypt : “the more things change, the more they stay the same”. The military has been in power for the last 30 years, and Mubarak has simply been the figurehead for that military. Will it really make any difference if there is a new face on the same old regime? Will there really be free and open, democratic elections in that country? Will the current regime really allow themselves to be voted out…assuming that a true government by the people for the people, like our system, can actually survive and thrive in the middle east?

Maybe any change is good. Maybe any change is an opportunity for democracy to flourish. Either way, one thing is true, if it weren’t for the Internet giving voice to the protesters, none of this change could have happened. The internet will probably be the biggest weapon against tyranny the world will ever know.

Rip Van Obama

In todays Thomas Friedman article in the New York Times, he describes how Mubarak is a lot like Rip Van Winkle meeting Facebook, a leader completely out of touch with his people.

I’d argue that similarly, Obama is about as out of touch with what everyday American go through as much as Mubarak was with the trials and tribulations of the Egyptian people. Not a day goes by where Obama does not propose some ridiculous new government program which will cost us millions or even billions, and truly net us nothing in return: no jobs, no prosperity, just more and more cash for his crony friends. For someone so supposedly intelligent, he seems amazingly out of touch and ill informed.

It’s too bad we can’t depose Obama. At least not yet. We’re working on it though.

Obama Weakens Us

What a disaster for the Egyptian people. After reports that the American supported tyrant Mubarak was going to step down, millions took to the streets to hear him do just that. And he then does the exact opposite, and feeling safe in his power, throws the crowd a few bones and goes back to his life.

In all this, where is our President? In all this, where is he? Is he strongly supporting the Egyptian people against tyranny? Is he helping the cause of freedom and democracy in Egypt? Is he giving the world an example for the Egyptians, and countless other countries unhappy with their regimes hope?

No. In fact, the Whitehouse didn’t even know what was going to happen. Reports say that most of the intelligence gleaned and decision making Obama came from watching MSNBC – likely the Obama’s favorite network. Does anyone else find it appalling how little we knew about what was going to happen in Egypt? We look like idiots.

Mubarak Forced Out

The latest news from Egypt say that Mubarak was forced to step down by the military, who really have been in power all along. Mubarak was simply a figurehead. I doubt if anything will really change.

I think I have some insight as to why Mubarak didn’t step down. As I mentioned in my earlier post on how to get a dictator to step down, its usual for these kinds of tyrants to only step down IF they are sure that their personal safety is in danger. Mubarak obviously believes that, despite the fact that millions of Egyptians want him out of office and yearn for freedom and democracy, like most tyrants, its all about THEM. If they don’t feel personally endangered, nothing else matters. After all, its all about the leaders want and needs and life, isn’t it.

This is why we say things change in Tunisia and thing not change in Egypt. Mubarak felt that he was still surrounded by enough of his supporters that he can stay in that bubble until some specified future time. By then, the protests would have petered out, and he can go back to being his old self.

Are We Now The Wimpy Kid?

Are we now the wimpy kid of the world? Obama’s deferential attitude towards the rest of the world is fairly galling. He basically does not come into any conversation with anyone else on the basis of strength, or as an equal.

He continually debases himself, in public by bowing deeply to other leaders and dictators (has anyone reminded him that that is simply not something the American president does? I mean, it IS written down somewhere isn’t it – and as a “constitutional scholar” he should know right. Although my thinking is that he wouldn’t know the Constitution if it bit him in the ass) and in private, strikes deals and agreements which diminish America, instead of uplifting it.

In one election, we went from a strong kid on the playground who earned respect from bullies and wimps alike. Now we are the kids everyone likes to take a shot at, and we don’t even fight back.

All signs point to yes.

Obama Was Told Not To Humiliate Mubarak

I guess when it comes to foreign policy, Obama is completely out of his element, or truly does believe that a weak America is a good thing. A story has been leaked that he was told by a number of high powered leaders in the middle east not to “humiliate” Mubarak. Conceivable, this is the root of his terribly weak handling of the Egyptian crisis.

Here we have literally millions of people crying out for freedom and democracy, and instead of holding up the United States as an example and a beacon to the Egyptian people, and encouraging the Egyptians to seek freedom, his reaction was muted. Was it muted by the “advice” of these Middle Eastern leaders. Probably. I guess since Obama does not believe in American exceptionalism, he figures that he should just do whatever they ask. No longer are we a force to be reckoned with, we are now the wimpy kid being shoved around by the playground bullies.

Mubarak To Step Aside: Good News or Not?

Good news from Egypt? Mubarak, according to two sources, has decided to step down and his VP, Omar Suleiman, would be stepping into his place. The question is: does it matter? This is why I wonder, is this really good news for Egypt? Will Suleiman simply continue the same policies under a different name? What will life be like under someone from the same administration. Will this really lead to more democracy and freedom in Egypt?

In my opinion, its doubtful. Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss? Could this just be yet another tactic for Mubarak to maintain his grip, but use Suleiman as a figurehead in order to deflect the rage away from him personally? Who knows, but all signs points to yes.

Let’s hope that is this is not the case. But if it is, let hope that  the masses yearning for freedom wont be fooled and continue to pressure whoever is in charge for freedom and democracy.

Internet Vs. Tyranny

The Internet will let people beat tyranny, not any the state. Basically, the state IS tyranny. They can’t work without it.

Do you want to know why the Bush administration, Obama and the current Democratic administration want to put curbs on Internet speech? Do you know why China already has curbs on Internet speech? It’s simple really.

The state does not want people talking to each other. And the internet is the ultimate peer-to-peer, or person-to-person communications mechanism. Its whole foundation is communications from any “node” to any other “node”

For the first time in human history, the Internet and the web provide a medium upon which every human being on the planet can talk to any other human being on the planet, be it via voice, text, and image whatever.

Think about it for a second: imagine a world where everyone on the planet has an iPhone, or iPhone like device, which gives them totally free, unfettered access to READ about anything and everything which is happening everywhere else. Can you imagine what someone would feel like, in one of these more impoverished countries, reading about what life could be like, in some other country, under a less oppressive regime? Now imagine that not only can that person READ anything from elsewhere, they can also WRITE their personal experiences to the Internet and the web, so that anyone, anywhere else can see what is going on in their lives.

We are seeing a small taste of these things today: look at all the tweets and YouTube videos which emanated from the violence surrounding the elections in Iran, and subsequent protests and riots. Without the Internet, and the ability for humans to WRITE to the web, as well and READ from it, we would have no idea what is going on over there. Think of when every human on the planet has a full read/write device.

This is deathly frightening to the state, as it subsists and survives (and this is important) on the restriction of the flow of information from one person to another. If there truly were a free flow of information from anyone to anyone, why would we need a state?

Why are states even necessary? As far as I’m concerned, the state simply exists to retard the forward progress of humanity, not accelerate it. And once we get full two-way connectivity to most of the humans on the planet, then states will no longer be necessary.

Let humanity talk to each other, without restriction, and the world will change.

Can We Take 4 More Years?

So the question is – can this country take 4 more years of Barack Hussein Obama? By all accounts it appears that during the next election cycle, the GOP will maintain their strength in the House (unless of course they make some bonehead move to compromise with this administration in the hope of “getting things done”) and probably make enough gains in the Senate in order to take that over as well. So we’ll have a Republican Congress, and a Democratic President.

One could argue that that worked well when Clinton was in office, but you can’t really compare Obama the ideologue with Clinton the pragmatist. Clinton actually moved towards the center, where Obama is incapable of it.

Assuming Obama does win next time around, that would still be a disaster, since doing nothing about reducing the size and scope of government (you know he will veto any bill which tries) would be almost as bad as increasing it at this point.

So the short answer is: NO!

The Budget Battle Begins

Now is the time when the rubber hits the road. We’ve had a reminder of the ideals this country was founded on by reading the Constitution on the floor of the house (now that was really historic), we’ve had our “largely symbolic” repeal vote of ObamaCare (with a Democrat senate and an unfeeling Democrat President, we could expect nothing else, I guess), so now its time to get to brass tacks: cutting the budget.

Most of us understand that the only way back to prosperity is to severely cut back budgets, kill programs and if possible shut down whole departments who have far outlived their usefulness. We are not just doing it because we want to , we now have to do it because we have to. It’s no longer an option.

We must be strong. There will be pain, and some will suffer. But its for the good of all in the end.

How Do We Stop Fueling Our Own Repression?

It's happening in Egypt, it's happening here. One of the big problems with protesting against a huge, overarching government, is that its resources are limitless. It has the guns, it has the money (stolen from the people in taxation) and it has the minions (military, police, etc) to suppress us for the long haul.

Depressingly, the state uses our own money to buy the guns and troops and police to keep us in check. As it's been shown in Egypt, as the protests have worn on, and as the current government continues to spend the people's stolen treasure on suppressing them, then the protesters, who I'm sure aren't getting paid to protest, and probably need to get back to their homes and lives and jobs will eventually have to give up.

So, the question is, how do you starve the state of the resources it needs to keep us repressed?

Obama Strangles The Internet

The Obama administration has been shown to be hostile to the internet. Anything it can’t control must be taken over. To that end, the administration is preparing to introduce legislation to take over the creation of new domain names. Why does the administration need to do this? This system has been in place for years and is working well, with absolutely no government intervention. Why, all of a sudden, does Obama need control over something that doesn’t need fixing? Why, if it’s not broke, they are looking to break it?

It all comes down to control. This administration cannot simply sit back and allow the free market to “win” anywhere – they must be in total control. There is simply no reason for the federal government to be involved in the creation and management of domain names, other than to suppress free speech and free markets.

Fooled Again: Do We Deserve Freedom?

Why did we elect Obama? Was it because we liked his policies? No, most of us aren’t into big government, or implementing other countries “failed polices of the past”. Was it because we couldn’t handle even more of the liberal lite style that we were getting from George W. Bush and his protégé McCain. Probably.

But what was the biggest reason we elected Barack Obama into office? So that we can feel good about electing a half African-American president? Maybe. Did we really think that we was any different from the guy who said “redistributive change”?

Anyways, he’s in, and his done his damage. Will we re-elect him next year? Maybe, if recent polls show how he has fooled the public. Feeling good about an African American president will not save us from disaster.

If we get Obama again, maybe we deserve what we get?

Reagan Was Like Avatar: Great, But Empty

In a lot of ways, Reagan was a lot like the movie Avatar. Reagan was a great communicator, just like Avatar was visually stunning. But underneath it all, the substance was lacking. For both.

Reagan said a lot of great things about big government, how it encroaches upon our lives and must be pushed back, but during his tenure, not a lot of that happened.

Avatar was beautiful on the outside, but the plot was a hoary old tale, heavily biased against business, technology and civilization.

For both, the masses were fooled into thinking they were both great. At least the sentiments that Reagan espoused, even if they were not implemented during his time, are still pretty valid, and are now being carried by a new crew, which I hope not only believes in the words, but is willing to undertake the actions to make those words real.

Reagan’s 100: Words, Not Deeds

It was Reagan’s 100 birthday on Sunday: had he been around, he would have been 100 years old. While Reagan is a much beloved figure among most Americans, and I know I’m going to take some heat for saying this, the guy said a lot of great things, but when it came down to actual action, he did not follow through on any of the things he talked about.

I mean, over the last few days, many commentators have been playing back clips of Reagan’s speeches and they are all very inspiring, all about government growing too large, and taking over, controlling too much of our lives, and about us taking back our power, reducing the size and scope of government. The only problem is, during his own term, he was unable to do any of those things. Government grew, not shrank under his presidency.

We can take inspiration from his words, but not his actions.

ObamaCare: The Real Lipstick On A Pig

Do you want to talk about lipstick on a pig? Then lets talk ObamaCare.

This heinous law, which hundreds of waivers have been granted for, and more than 12 states are suing, has already been struck down as unconstitutional at least once, which many more to come. But what does Obama do? He refuses to repeal the law. He is up for some “tweaks” to the law, but not up for a full repeal, which is exactly what this law needs. It is, like most things coming out of Washington, an overpriced boondoggle which will finally destroy the excellent health care system we have in this country.

And he wants to put lipstick on this pig in the form of a “tweak”. I say, we can’t let this happen. We have to work hard to take this law down, then keep going, use that momentum to take the others down as well.

What Else Is A King To Do? Enjoy Himself At Our Expense

Isn’t that great? Did you hear about the spread at the White House for Superbowl? We got chicken wings, cheeseburgers, deep dish pizza, and so on and so on. A whole laundry list of the stuff Michelle Obama is trying to get banned from restaurants across the country. All, of course at taxpayers expense. How do you feel when Obama asks Jennifer Lopez (another multi-millionaire) to kick back at the White House at our expense? I wonder who paid for the new big screen TV they watched. Give you one guess. You.

This guy has thumbed his nose at our pain from the very beginning. This presidency has been like one nice long vacation to him at taxpayers expense. What has he really done to further the cause of the American people? Nothing.

What we have here is the new American royalty. And just like royalty, they care nothing for their “subjects.”

Don’t Be Fooled Again: Obama Can’t Change

Recently, the press has ben flooded with reports of Obama suddenly changing course, suddenly turning right. Obama sees the light and turns right, the pundits bleat. But what is the reality? Read and listen closely, my friends, and what you will hear and see is the same old, same old failed policies of the past.

He wont look at repealing ObamaCare, but he will look at “tweaking” it. He says that all ideas are on the table, but foe some reason, all of those ideas which results in spending cuts and smaller government don’t seem to get anywhere. He has no trouble berating the American people into action, but when it comes to actual change which can help us, such as reducing tax and regulation and the size and scope of government, its not even on his radar.

ObamaCare Struck Down

ObamaCare is struck down by a judge in Florida. And rightly so, as the law is patently unconstitutional. In fact, this is not the first time, or the only law thats been deemed unconstitutional and still been enforced. Obama will likely vow to fight to keep the law in place, no doubt unleashing legions of lawyers paid for by our taxes, to keep in force a law which most of us agree is pretty bad. But why would that stop Obama? Why should it? He, and his administration, have shown a complete disregard for everything we need and want, so why should this change. He feels that we are stupid idiots, who aren't intelligent enough to make our own decisions, so he needs to force these decisions on us. Who is more of a tyrant, Mubarak or Barack? They just oppress in different ways, don't they.
