What Canada Did To The Internet and How It Could Happen Here

tabletThis is news to me, but apparently in an attempt to reduce piracy, as well as to further rip off the Canadian people (the cost of wireless access in Canada is ridiculously high compared to the United States) the Canadian government forced internet service providers, you know, those private businesses which provide us with our access to the internet, to cap download sizes. Some government agency came up with a arbitrary number, and all internet access is capped at that number.

Does this grate at you as much as it does me? Here is a government agency telling us how much internet we can consume. This is Canada, folks, not more repressive regimes like Egypt or China or others. It’s getting popular for the state to suppress the internet, since they are now getting the fact that it’s the internet that will be their undoing in the end.
