909 - Egypt Free? - Obama Supplicates - CPAC: Trump, Ron Paul, Herman Cain

On Today's Show:

• Mubarak either steps down or is pushed out, either way, does this mean freedom and democracy for Egypt, or will it be more of the same?


• Why is it that Obama has to supplicate himself to every world. I mean I can understand why we doesn't want all these people to feel below him but at the same time, why does he not at least treat everyone else as an equal. He treats other world leaders as better than him and by extension all other peoples better that the American people


• CPAC is pretty rousing, with Donald Trump, Ron Paul, Herman Cain, all great figures. Trump comes out and says the obvious, Ron Paul has ZERO chance, which is true, but I don't think I can trust Trump either. How much of a conservative/libertarian is he, anyways?

Ron Paul And The Paulians

I used to be a devout Paulian. I was a huge Ron Paul supporter during the last election. I have never, ever had a bumper sticker on my car, but my rear bumper sports a Ron Paul 2008 bumper sticker. I even joined (gasp!) the Republican party prior to the primaries in order to vote for the good doctor. I even went on a real radio station in Santa Cruz (KSCO) and did a whole two hours on why Ron Paul should be president I went door-to-door with his supporters, interviewed them for my show, and basically, for a time in 2008, went all out for the guy.

While his message is great, and he’s probably done more to turn people to liberty and freedom and political action than most people, he has, as Trump not so eloquently put it, zero chance of winning the presidency. And as the practical libertarian that I am – I will have to agree. So I will not support Ron Paul this time around, and neither should any of us who want to truly see more of a shift to his vision.

Let’s all support someone who can take us closer now.

Bachmann At CPAC

Now I had heard of Michele Bachmann prior to CPAC, but I had never heard her speak. She said all of the right things, including:

America is the indispensable nation of the world

and

Free markets work. Let them!

Barring the terrible grammar of the first one – completely agree with both statements. There’s been talk of a presidential run.

I have to be practical. That’s my thing. Maybe I should even start calling myself “The Practical Libertarian” (hmm – not a bad idea). Watching and listening to her speak, and I’ll be honest, since that all I can be, I thought that she was a slightly less powerful imitation of Sarah Palin. If I were choosing a candidate to go up against Obama in the next election, I’m sorry to say that it wouldn’t be her. Then  again, as much as I like the guy, it wouldn’t be Ron Paul either.

Rumsfeld On America

Yesterday, I was listening to both CPAC and the Mubarak speech at the same time (no mean feat!) when Donald Rumsfeld took the stage. One of the best quotes of the day I just had to tweet:

The United States is the most important invention of Mankind

Well put. This republic, this country, this nation, was founded on the ideals that the people are in control, that the people can be trusted to run their own lives, and if left alone, live, work, play in a peaceful and productive way. When the people are left alone to largely govern themselves, they are capable of awesome and amazing things.

It’s no secret why most people on earth consider America the best place on earth. For the first time in history, it was a country designed from the ground up to honor the people, not rulers. And mankind deserves honor, not rule.

One wonders why we would ever want to get back to a place where we were ruled. And that’s exactly where Obama and his ilk want us to go.

Trump Wows CPAC - Part 2: Ron Paul

One thing that he said that was pretty interesting though – he came right out and said what many of us are thinking

Ron Paul can’t win. He has ZERO chance.

This of course is, sadly, true. While I completely agree with Ron Paul and all of his positions, I also agree with Trump that there is no way that he can win an election. I love his ideals, I love how he has become a leader and a focal point in thinking. I love how he drove so many more people out of their complacency in 2008. I love how he brought TRUE hope (not the false hope of Obama) back to people who were politically dead.

However, I’m all about practicality. I want to see freedom in my time and my children’s time, not some far flung wonderful utopian future state. And that's where I fear Ron Paul sits: he’s about education not action.

Trump Wows CPAC - Part 1

Interesting. I was enthralled listening to Trump at CPAC. I never thought that The Donald was particularly conservative, in fact I think I recall that he supported Obama in the last presidential election. Or maybe that was just because he was, like most of us, unhappy with the alternatives.

Anyways, Trump takes the stage, gives a powerful, rousing speech – speaks about fiscal issues -  touches on a few social issues – talks about returning America to greatness. He sounded pretty good. He definitely has the celebrity and star power to go up against Barack Hussein Obama.

My only issue with Trump: I don’t know if I truly believe where he stands. As a businessman, he should understand how to grow the economy. But as one who probably dealt for favors from government, I’d put him in as more of a corporatist than a true capitalist.

Bottom line: Not sure I can trust him to stay the course.

Gay Pot Abortion: We Can't Afford The Distraction

At CPAC, we need to focus on the fiscal, as I mentioned in an earlier post. The mainstream media, and various groups with axes to grind, such as GOPROUD will attempt to refocus the spotlight on the social issues that we disagree on, like gay marriage,  pot smoking, abortion etc.

While these are important issues, we have to remain laser focused on the issues which bring us together, such as fiscal ones. Firstly, none of those other issues have the capability to truly destroy this country like fiscal issues can, and secondly, I think we can all agree that when it comes to social issues, the state has no business FUNDING any support of those issues. If you ask me, all of the above, plus more, are deeply personal, and the state should have no say in, and should definitely not support or work against with taxpayer funds.

So lets agree: focus on the fiscal issues, and focus on keeping the social issues personal.

CPAC: Republicans Should Honor The Tea Party

If it weren't for the Tea Party movement, infusing the Republican party with the good, old-fashioned values which founded this country, the Republican party, and conservatives, would not be where they are today. My personal sense is that the Republicans see us Tea Party activists as more "useful idiots", the unwashed masses that they can use now and abuse once they get into office. What I'm expecting is RESPECT from the Republicans and the rest of them at CPAC. If it weren't for the power of the ideals brought forth by the Tea Party movement, the GOP would still be in neocon land, pondering their fate. James Carville, the noted liberal once predicted that conservatives would wander in the wilderness for 40 years after the last election. The Tea Party breathed new life into conservatives and Republicans alike. Don't dishonor us by dissing us now.

What We Should See At CPAC

At the CPAC annual gathering of conservatives and right leaning libertarians, we should see a lot of interesting stuff. The leftist mainstream media will no doubt publicize the event heavily, always looking for some way to present the most fringe elements as the core of the movement. And I'm sure that there will be some of those group there, a lot of which will focus on various social issues. And I'm sure that the MSM will try to distract and highlight those groups in order to make conservatives look strange, backwards and foolish.

Here's my warning: don't take the bait. Even though many of us may disagree on social issues, we can all find common ground on fiscal issues. We all agree that government is too big, costs too much, and must be trimmed down and cut back. It is essential that THAT is the message coming out of CPAC: we stand united on the fiscal front.

908 - CPAC:Focus On The Fiscal - Defund - LOL:High Speed Rail

On Today's Show:

• I hope that they focus on the fiscal issues at CPAC and don't get distracted by things like gay marriage and abortion. We just need to agree that none of these things shoudl be funded by the government and in turn our tax dollars


• We need to continue to defund ObamaCare until we can elect Obama out of office and repeal it


• I can't believe that Obama is thinking of bailing out the states and of building high speed rail lines - what the hell is wrong with this guy. He simply does not have a true understanding of reality does he. Talk about living in a bubble


• And on Egypt, unfortunately it looks like those with the money and the guns will win out. So much for democracy and freedom. So much for our president being a democracy and freedom supporter
